Jake Collins Retains Mens Title.

Jake Collins successfully defended his title, to claim his 2nd Ipswich Men's Singles title.His opponent in the final was Andy Warner, who despite only being 6th seed this year, again made itthrough the final stages. After the first 2 games were shared, the consistency and power of Collinsplay proved too much for Warner, as Collins ran out a comfortable winner 3-1.
Progressing to the Final Jake Collins again beat his brother Ryan, this time in 3-2, whilst theother semi-final saw Warner defeat surprise Semi Finalist Paul Broxton 3-1. Broxton in progressingto his first semi final, caused the upset of the Championship by defeating the no. 1 seed NeilCharles 3-0 in the last 16.
The Ladies Final saw defending champion Claire Lowe up against no. 1 seed Lauren Spink. After aclose start to the match, Spink took control to win the first 11-6. Lowe fought to stay with heropponent, but eventually lost the 2nd game 11-9. Spink raced through the third game, as her powerand quality really came to the fore to take the title 3-0.
The Men's Doubles provided some of the best Table Tennis of the evening, with Jake & Ryan Collinsstorming to a 2-0 set lead over Paul Davison & Neil Charles. Charles & Davison played superbly towin the next 2, to take it into a decider. At 7-7 all in the fifth, the Collins upped their gamewhen it really mattered to win the next 4 points, and in the progress, claim their 6th title in arow.
The Ladies Doubles saw new pairing Aimee Sparkes and Rosemary Curtis up against Sonja Talbot &Claire Lowe. There was to be no upset here, as Talbot and Lowe won 3-0.
In the Mixed Doubles, no. 1 seeds Lauren Spink & Neil Charles did not have it all their own way,as Claire Lowe & Andy Warner produced some outstanding play. However, after sharing the first 4games, Spink & Charles eventually won the decider 11-7, to win their first Ipswich Mixed Doublestitle.
In the Junior Final, defending champion Elliot Branton came up against Will Hall. After losing thefirst, Hall upped his game to win the next 2. Branton fought back to take it to a decider, but thecalmness of Hall's play saw him comfortably through the decider to win his first Junior title.Earlier in the evening Hall had also won the Restricted event beating Dave Halliday in 5 closegames, eventually winning 11-9 in the fifth.
The Vets Final saw Neil Charles defeat Tony West 11-8 in the fifth, after West came from 2-0 to take itto a deciding set.

This weekend the Ipswich & District Table Tennis League, celebrating its 80th anniversary, holds itsannual championships at the Ipswich Corn Exchange.
With over 450 matches scheduled over the two days this year's Championships again promises to provide some top classTable Tennis. This year's event also contains a World Record attempt on the 'most participants in a Table Tennis rally'currently record standing at 101, this will be attempted on the Sunday morning.
Spectators are welcome to come along, to this FREE event, no need for tickets just turn up, plenty of seating, close upto the action during the 2 days, and especially to our finals night which commences at 7.00pm on the Sunday, with theMayor, and arguable the best player Ipswich has produced, John Kitchener returning to present winners and runner ups,their respective trophies. The tournament commences at 8.00am on Saturday with play continuing to approx 5pm each day.
With most of Suffolk's top Men & Ladies playing, along with players from Norfolk & Essex this years singles events havesome of the strongest line ups seen for a number of years, with 5 players ranked with England's top 100.
In the Mens singles No 1 seed, Neil Charles, undefeated this season, will be looking to avenge last year's final defeatto Suffolk No.1 and 2nd seed Jake Collins. Both players will face stern opposition from 3rd seed Ryan Collins looking forhis fourth title. Ryan is arguable the in form player at the moment, fresh from his recent 1st Senior Grand Prix win.Seeds 4 & 5 are made up of two further players unbeaten this season Kit Lo and Tony West. The other seeds making upthe top 8 are former Suffolk No.1 Dave Cole, and previous Mens champions Andy Warner and Wayne Shaw. The strength indepth in the men's event is highlighted by former champions Andy Dosher, Charlie Fulcher and Richard Hutchinson noteven making the top 10 seeding.
In the Ladies Singles, we are likely to see a new champion with England No.7, Lauren Spink making her first appearanceat the championships as the No.1 seed. Looking to cause an upset will be reigning champion Claire Lowe, and previouschampion Aimee Sparkes.
In the Junior events, Number 1 seed Elliot Branton will be looking to defend his title, with the main threat coming fromWilliam Hall.
The Mens Doubles is another strong event, with reigning champions Jake & Ryan Collins again schedule to meet PaulDavidson & Neil Charles in a repeat of the last 2 Finals. Looking to prevent this are 3rd & 4th seeding of Andy Warner& Gary Young and Tony West & Andy Dosher. The pairings of Nigel Hodder & Wayne Shaw will be a combination the top seedswill want to avoid.
In the Ladies Doubles Claire Lowe and Sonja Talbot are the No.1 seeds, with new pairing of Aimee Sparkes and RosemaryCurtis the 2nd seeds.
Aimee Sparkes and Jake Collins the defending Mixed Doubles champions will face a tough task to defend their titleagainst No.1 seeds Neil Charles & Lauren Spink.
The Mens Veterans have another strong line-up with Neil Charles, the England No.3 veteran, the top seed in this event.Andy Warner, Tony West and Dave Cole make up the other top seedings.
There are seven other events being held over the 2 days, including all the Divisional championships, Restricted andSuper Veterans events. Sunday is the day to see the best players, with both Mens & Ladies Singles & Doubles eventsbeing held.
